Armistice Day: A Community Coming Together to Remember
On Tuesday 11th November, our school felt a little different, quieter, more thoughtful, and filled with a sense of shared purpose. Armistice Day is always an important moment in our calendar, but this year’s gathering felt especially meaningful as our wider community came together to honour those who have served and sacrificed.
We were privileged to welcome representatives from the police and fire services, the mayor, local dignitaries, and many friends of our school. Their presence reminded us that remembrance is not just a ceremony, but a shared act that connects every part of our community.
One of the most striking moments of the morning was seeing boys from our local Scout groups step forward as standard bearers. They carried out their role with such pride and respect, embodying the spirit of service that Armistice Day represents.
Inside the library, staff and students had created a beautiful and moving display. The room was filled with pieces of writing from students across the school. Thoughtful reflections, poems, and personal responses to the stories they have learned. Among them was a particularly touching contribution from one student who chose to explore his own family history. Alongside his writing, he displayed his relatives’ medals, offering a heartfelt reminder of how remembrance is woven into the personal stories of so many families.
As we gathered together, it became clear that our act of remembrance is more than a tradition. It is a moment of connection — between generations, between community groups, and between the past and the present.
We will remember them. 🌺
