KS4 Options 

 

At Richard Hale, students choose their GCSE options during the Spring term of Year 9, preparing them to begin their Key Stage 4 courses in Year 10. Following our move to a 3-year Key Stage 3, this timeline ensures students build a strong foundational knowledge before making their choices.

While selecting options in Year 9 is a significant milestone, students receive comprehensive support throughout the process from their Head of Year, the Assistant Head for Key Stage 3, form tutors, and subject teachers.

 

Key Dates & Information Evenings

  • Parents’ KS4 Options Information Evening: Tuesday 5th January 2027
  • Options Process: Spring Term (Year 9)

 

Note: Further details and precise timelines for student presentations will be shared following the Information Evening.

 

When moving into Key Stage 4, all students continue with our core curriculum alongside their chosen options:

  • Core Subjects: English, Mathematics, Science, Physical Education, and Games.
  • Humanities Requirement: All students must select at least one Humanity (Geography, History, or both).
  • Languages Requirement: The vast majority of students are expected to continue studying their modern foreign language through to GCSE level.
