Applying to RHS Sixth Form – 2025 Entry
Please click on the link here to view and hear staff and students talking about ‘Life at Richard Hale Sixth Form’. Details about post-16 courses offered at Richard Hale can be found below.
Application Deadline
Our application deadline for September 2025 entry is Monday 25th November. The links to the Application Forms for internal students (current Richard Hale Year 11) and external candidates are listed below.
We will review all the applications we receive; students will then either be invited for an interview with a senior member of staff (internal students) or to attend an Offer Holder Evening (external candidates). For current Richard Hale students this will take place in January following mock examinations. For students applying from other schools, applicants will be invited to attend the Offer Holder Evening in early March. It would be useful if students had access to their mock exam results at this time.

Entry Requirements for 2025
Our curriculum is broad and our courses are offered at Level 3 only. We offer A Levels, BTEC qualifications and the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ). However, we do not believe that being at school only involves gaining further qualifications. We believe a Sixth Form experience should include breadth as well as depth. Our Sixth Form students are expected to contribute to the School and wider community (eg by leading younger students in organising House events or by working with our linked primary schools), thus developing their skills by taking a leading role in the life of the School.
We have a two-year structure of study, sometimes known as linear, with examinations taken at the end of the second year. AS examinations will not usually be taken and teaching schedules will not prepare students with AS examinations in mind. We are a full-time only Sixth Form and an applicant is expected to have achieved the requisite GCSEs in order to join the course(s) they wish to study.
The expectation is that students will take three principle subjects for two years (our BTEC subjects are “triple” and are equivalent to three A Levels). Committed and able mathematicians may wish to add Further Mathematics as a fourth qualification. We will consider other subjects as a possible fourth A Level on an individual basis.
Entry requirements for A Levels: Average Points Score of 5.0 over your best 8 Full Course GCSEs and English and Mathematics GCSE at Grade 5 or more. You will be required to have gained a Grade 6 in a subject, or a related subject, you wish to take at A Level. Mathematics requires a Grade 7, and Further Mathematics a Grade 8. In our professional opinion students with at least these grades at point of entry to the Sixth Form stand the best chance of success at A Level. Please see individual subject entries for further recommendations as regards entry requirements.
Entry requirements for BTEC Courses: Average Points Score of 4.0 over your best 8 Full Course GCSEs and English and Mathematics at Grade 4 or more. In our professional opinion students with at least these grades at point of entry to the Sixth Form stand the best chance of success at BTEC. Students may also opt to take the Rugby Academy alongside the BTEC course.
Discussions with Senior Staff are held on GCSE Results Day with students and their parents/carers in order to finalise subject offers.
