Richard Hale Students Win National Raspberry Pi Competition at Google HQ
We are delighted to share some exceptional news: Year 10 students Ben and Mykhailo have been crowned national winners of the PA Consulting Raspberry Pi Competition 2025, held at Google’s UK Headquarters in London.
Representing the school under the team name RPHM (Raspberry Pi Health Monitor), Ben and Mykhailo competed against schools from across the country with their innovative project—a portable, low-cost health monitoring device. Designed to measure both heart rate and blood oxygen levels, the device is intended to be affordable, accessible, and capable of transmitting vital health data directly to the NHS or a GP. The system has the potential to support early diagnosis and significantly enhance patient care.
Their project impressed a distinguished panel of judges, which included:
Tom Read, Group Chief Digital & Technology Officer, Serco
Sarah Venning, Chief Digital and Data Officer, Merlin Entertainments
Shannon Miller, President – Growth, Strategy & Digital, Jacobs
Tina Clapham CBE, Director: Data and Cyber Security, UK Health Security Agency
Amit Thawani – Chief Information Officer at Lloyds Banking Group
To win such a prestigious award—judged by senior leaders from both public and private sectors and hosted at Google HQ—is a truly remarkable achievement. Ben and Mykhailo delivered their presentation with confidence, clarity, and technical expertise, proudly representing Richard Hale School on the national stage.
Their success doesn’t stop there. The students have also been invited to exhibit their invention at the Science Museum in London. On 3 July 2025, PA Consulting will host a special client event featuring over 60 leaders from industry and the public sector. Finalists, including Ben and Mykhailo, will have the opportunity to demonstrate their projects and engage with key figures in the fields of technology, innovation, and healthcare.
This recognition is a testament to their hard work, creativity, and passion for technology. The entire Richard Hale community congratulates Ben and Mykhailo on this incredible achievement and looks forward to following their continued success.
