House Debating – Years 9, 10 and 12
House Debating – Years 9, 10 and 12
On Wednesday students in years 9, 10 and 12 took part in a house debating competition. This year’s scenario asked students to research and come up with a project that would reduce the carbon footprint of the local area. One student in each house presented the idea, one defended it as other houses questioned the feasibility of ideas in a practical and financial context, and one questioned other houses in a similar vein. The projects proposed were: shareable bikes like those used in London and other big cities, bringing old houses up to date with heat pump systems, reworking bus timetables and infrastructure and investing in renewable energy for transport systems.
All students behaved professionally and gave interesting presentations, as well as thought out and interesting ideas for and against each of the ideas.
In the end, Wallace was the overall winner for their excellent etiquette, clear defense of idea, and quality of public speaking skills on top of their interesting idea of shareable bike systems.
