On Friday, we kicked off British Science Week by welcoming guest speaker Simon Watt from the The Ugly Animal Preservation Society, who gave an incredibly engaging and entertaining talk which was well received by students of all ages. The Ugly Animal Preservation Society aims to celebrate and explore the incredible biology of the animal kingdom’s most monstrous creatures, including how their interesting features and adaptations evolved in the first place. Thank you to Simon for a series of fantastic talks.
As British Science Week continued, on Monday our Year 8 students had great fun studying the flight mechanics of animals such as birds, insects and fish, and used biomimicry to create gliders out of paper, card and straws. They then enjoyed seeing whose design travelled the furthest and discussed why these designs were so successful. Fabulous work Year 8!
There are more fun activities planned for other year groups as the week progresses so watch this space!
